The Compound Growth Formula

Lumpsum maturity value uses the compound interest formula A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t), where P is the principal invested, r is the expected annual return rate, n is the compounding frequency per year, and t is the investment tenure in years. Because the entire principal starts compounding from day one, this differs from a SIP where each installment compounds for a progressively shorter period.

Compounding Frequency Changes the Outcome

The same nominal annual rate produces a higher maturity value as compounding frequency increases, since interest earned is reinvested and starts earning its own interest sooner. Selecting monthly compounding instead of annual compounding on the same principal, rate, and tenure will always yield a slightly larger final corpus.
