Divide the grand total by the number of people. When the amount does not divide evenly, this calculator assigns leftover paise or cents in a fixed order so the shares still add up to the exact bill — for example ₹1,000 among 3 people becomes ₹333.34, ₹333.33 and ₹333.33.
Use Custom amounts when people agree on exact figures, Percentage when you want a 50/30/20 split, or Shares when one person had twice as much as another. The result is only marked final once the split matches the bill.
In Items mode, tap everyone who had a dish. A ₹300 plate shared by two people is ₹150 each. Nobody is asked to pay a shared item in full unless they are the only person assigned to it.
Tax can be a percentage or a fixed amount on the subtotal. In itemized mode, each person pays tax in proportion to their item subtotal: if you ordered 40% of the food, you pay 40% of the tax. The same rule is used for service charge.
Tip is optional and is not treated as a universal rule. Choose a percentage or a fixed amount, and choose whether the tip is calculated on the subtotal or on subtotal plus tax. In itemized mode, tip follows the same proportional rule as tax.
Percentages must add to 100%. Shares are ratios: 1, 2 and 3 shares on a ₹1,200 bill become ₹200, ₹400 and ₹600. This is useful when people consumed different amounts but you do not want to itemize the receipt.
Exact minor-unit amounts are the default. If you round each person to 1, 5 or 10, the calculator shows the original total, the rounded collection, and any extra. It will not hide a difference created by rounding.
Open Already paid? and enter what each person put on the card. Net balance is amount paid minus fair share. Positive balances get money back; negative balances still need to pay. The settlement list matches debtors to creditors so the group can settle in as few transfers as possible.
An equal split is fastest when everyone ordered roughly the same. When one person had a small plate and another had several shared dishes, itemized splitting plus proportional tax and tip keeps light eaters from subsidizing the rest of the table.
Service charge is a line on the bill; tip is optional. Keep them separate so a mandatory service charge is not confused with an extra gratuity. Both can be a percentage or a fixed amount.
