Kalsarpa Bhanga (Cancellation) Rules

In Vedic astrology, having all 7 classical planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) hemmed between Rahu and Ketu creates a Kalsarpa Yog. However, specific astrological yoga combinations automatically trigger Kalsarpa Bhanga (Cancellation):

1. Exalted Kendra Planets

If Jupiter, Saturn, or Venus occupies a Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th house) in an exalted or own sign, Kalsarpa negative friction is nullified.

2. Planetary Arc Breach

If even one planet (e.g. Moon or Mars) steps outside the Rahu-Ketu hemispheric boundary, the yoga transforms into a mild, partial condition.

3. Conjunction with Sun/Mars

When Rahu or Ketu is conjunct a powerful Sun or Mars, the serpent node's malefic intensity is overcome by solar/fire radiance.

4. Planetary Age Maturity

Rahu reaches astrological maturity at age 33 and Ketu at age 42, after which Kalsarpa Dosha turns into a source of deep wisdom and career authority.

How Kalsarpa Dosha Is Identified

01

The Rahu-Ketu Axis

In Vedic astrology, Kalsarpa Dosha (or Kal Sarp Yog) is described in a birth chart when all seven classical planets, the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn, fall on one side of the shadow-planet axis formed by Rahu (North Node) and Ketu (South Node). This placement is read as concentrating planetary influence between the two nodes rather than spreading it across the whole chart.

02

Twelve Types Based on Rahu's House

The specific house Rahu occupies, from the 1st to the 12th, determines which of the twelve named types applies, ranging from Ananta and Kulika through to Sheshnaga. Each named type is traditionally associated with a different area of emphasis, such as health, finances, or relationships, based on the house involved.

03

Full Dosha, Partial Yog, and Cancellation

A Full Kalsarpa Dosha requires all seven planets to sit strictly within the Rahu-Ketu axis, while a Partial Yog occurs when one planet breaks the pattern, generally read as reducing its intensity. Vedic tradition also holds that an exalted Jupiter or Saturn, or benefic planets placed in strong Kendra or Trikona houses, can cancel or soften the effect.

04

Checking It Alongside Other Charts

Because Kalsarpa Dosha depends on the same natal chart used for other Vedic readings, it is often reviewed together with the Sade Sati Calculator and the Kundli Matching Calculator for a broader view of planetary influences.

Quick answers about how this tool works.

It analyzes Rahu's house placement in your natal horoscope (1st to 12th house). For example, Rahu in the 1st house creates Ananta Kalsarpa Dosha, while Rahu in the 5th house creates Padma Kalsarpa Dosha.

Full Kalsarpa occurs when all 7 planets are enclosed on one side of Rahu-Ketu. Partial Kalsarpa occurs when 1 planet breaches the axis, significantly lessening the impact.

Yes! Kalsarpa Yoga is nullified if Jupiter or Saturn is exalted, or if benefic planets occupy strong Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) or Trikona (5th, 9th) houses.

Key Vedic remedies include chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra 108 times daily, performing Rahu-Ketu Shanti Puja, observing Nag Panchami fasts, and donating silver snake idols.

While the planetary placement is natal, its intensity peaks during Rahu or Ketu Mahadasha/Antardasha. Performing remedies and spiritual practices reduces its influence.
