Quick answer

Turn annual pay into an hourly rate

Annual compensation ÷ actual working hours in the year. Adjust days, leave, and holidays in the calculator — the worked examples and FAQs below go deeper.

Annual ÷ ((52×days − holidays − leave) × h/day)

12 LPA · 5-day

₹646.55/h

12 LPA · 6-day

₹528.17/h

Salary, Hourly Rate & Freelance Pricing in India

01

CTC Is Not the Same as Hourly Cash

Cost to Company bundles employer PF, gratuity and perks that never hit your bank. Enter whichever annual figure you want to spread across hours — CTC, gross, or in-hand. For a full statutory breakdown, use the In-Hand Salary Calculator first, then paste the annual in-hand figure here.

02

Why 5-Day and 6-Day Weeks Change the Hourly Rate

Manufacturing, retail and many MSME roles still run six-day weeks. The annual package is unchanged, but total scheduled hours rise, so the implied hourly rate falls. Always compare offers using the same days-per-week assumption.

03

Paid Hours vs Actual Hours

Your payslip pays for public holidays and earned leave even when you are not at your desk. Paid-hours rate divides salary by scheduled paid days; actual-hours rate also removes leave from the denominator to show what each hour at work is worth.

04

Freelancers Must Bill Above the Salaried Equivalent

Employees are paid for non-billable time — meetings, training, bench, paid leave. Freelancers should target a higher hourly rate because only a fraction of calendar time is billable. Enter your real billable percentage rather than assuming 100%.

Quick answers about how this tool works.

Divide annual cash compensation by total working hours in the year. With a 5-day week, 8 hours per day, 18 paid leave days and 10 public holidays: working days = 52×5−10−18 = 232, hours = 1,856, hourly ≈ ₹12,00,000 ÷ 1,856 = ₹646.55. Adjust leave, holidays and hours to match your employer.

Multiply LPA by 1,00,000 to get annual rupees, then divide by actual working hours in the year: (52 × days per week − public holidays − paid leave) × hours per day. Example: 12 LPA → ₹12,00,000 ÷ 1,856 h ≈ ₹646.55/h on default 5-day assumptions. Use the reference table on this page for common LPA values.

There is no single national number — it depends on your days per week, daily hours, employer holidays and leave. This calculator uses: gross days = 52 × working days per week; actual working days = gross days − public holidays − paid leave; annual hours = actual working days × hours per day. On defaults (5-day, 8 h, 18 leave, 10 holidays) that is 232 × 8 = 1,856 actual working hours.

A six-day week adds 52 extra scheduled days per year before leave. The same annual salary divided across more hours produces a lower hourly rate. Compare offers only after normalising days per week and daily hours.
