How the Color Visualizer Analyzes Paint Choices

01

Relative Luminance and Heat Reflection Formula

The visualizer converts your selected hex color to RGB and applies the WCAG relative luminance formula, L = (0.2126 x R + 0.7152 x G + 0.0722 x B) / 255, to produce a heat-reflection percentage (an SRI-style estimate) for whichever surface you are recoloring, such as walls, roof, doors, trim, garage, or fence.

02

Fade Resistance, Maintenance, and Color Harmonies

Fade resistance and maintenance ratings shift automatically based on that reflection score: very dark, low-reflection colors get a higher fading and chalking risk, while very light, high-reflection colors get a higher rating for showing dirt or mold. The tool also generates matching palettes by rotating the color hue by 180 degrees for a complementary shade and by plus or minus 120 degrees for triadic shades.

03

Color Analysis Example

A warm cream wall color (#F5E6D3, RGB 245, 230, 211) computes to a relative luminance of about 91%, so the tool reports high heat reflection along with a higher maintenance rating for showing dirt or mold on such a light surface, and it automatically suggests a complementary teal-blue accent by shifting the hue 180 degrees.

Quick answers about how this tool works.

A house color combination visualizer is an interactive software tool that lets you preview how different paint colors will look on the interior walls and exterior structures of a house before purchasing paint.

The tool uses SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) to render home layouts. When you select a color and click on a target area (such as the walls, roof, doors, or trim), the SVG element is instantly filled with the chosen shade.

Yes! The visualizer features a client-side photo uploader where you can drag and drop your home photo, automatically identify areas, and use a slider to compare before-and-after variations.

Lenders and designers suggest using the 60-30-10 rule: 60% dominant color (usually walls), 30% secondary shade (garage, gables), and 10% accent color (shutters, front door).
